Computer Technician |
Self-employed |
- From Aug. 2011 to current I have I have been getting few jobs via PC Solutions (less than two per week), after a key manager left PC Solutions in July 2011.
- In September to December 2011 I began my own advertising strategy, and developed a customer management system.
- My 'private' job-rate has increased to ten per week, or more, while the PCSol job-rate has not yet improved.
- Most 'private' customers call my mobile phone, while PCSol sends an SMS to my mobile phone.
- My 'private' customers pay by cash or cheque, or directly into my bank account.
Aug. 06 - Sep. 11 |
Computer Technician |
Personal Computer Solutions and Tuition, Brisbane (PCSol) |
- Late in August 2006 I started work with PCSol as a Computer Technician (sub-contract).
- PCSol office staff handle customer enquiries and post my jobs on PCSol's website. The office also sends me an email, and a text message to my mobile phone.
- I then deal directly with the customer to arrange a time, perform the work, and collect payment (usually the customer pays by cash, cheque, or credit card upon job completion).
- As each job is completed I enter the details into PCSol's web application, which records the details and generates an invoice/receipt for the customer.
Feb. 05 - Aug. 06 |
Web Developer |
Transport Safety Services, Buderim (TSS) |
- In February 2006 I began part-time work with TSS to develop an interactive web application (app.).
- TSS required the app. to provide access for clients and their users to TSS' motor vehicle and heavy machinery tracking and messaging services.
- The app. is an Active Server Pages (ASP: server-side VBScript, client-side JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MS Access databases) app. hosted on a Windows 2003 Internet server.
- I used an Object-Oriented Database Design methodology to model and develop structures for the MS Access relational databases used by the app. for data storage.
- At present the app. comprises several publicly accessible pages, two sections (each several pages) providing access (after login via http://www.alerta.com.au/ EDIT 28 June 2014: link removed - website no longer exists) for authorised users to TSS' services, and an administration section for database management and other purposes.
Oct. 04 - Jun. 05 |
Instructor |
Sunshine 60 & Better, Maroochydore (SSB) |
- In October 2004 I began voluntary work at Sunshine 60 & Better (SSB) as a computer instructor.
- Initially the work involved gathering recycled components and setting up a small (six seat) Windows 98 computer network.
- Once the computers were ready (mid Nov. 05) I began teaching two classes each, of up to six elderly people, three days per week, using class notes I wrote as required.
- During April 2005 SSB management engaged a volunteer assistant to work under my supervision.
- In mid June 2005 I handed over to the assistant and discontinued the SSB voluntary work.
